Product Lead

About the Role

My client is seeking an expert in managing complex technical products who excels at collaborating across engineering, design, and external partners. As a Senior/Principal Product Manager, you will be responsible for the core aspects of their platform: enabling universities to define program requirements (such as BS Computer Science) and evaluating student progress against them. The accuracy of student progress tracking is foundational to everything they build, making this a high-impact and high-responsibility role.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and shape the Progress product by deeply understanding how universities define academic requirements and ensuring our system evaluates student progress accurately and efficiently.
• Lead problem-solving efforts by breaking down long-term, complex challenges into actionable, iterative steps that deliver immediate value.
• Drive technical collaboration with engineers (across US and Pakistan), discussing trade-offs, system architecture, and product decisions.
• Engage with university partners through product discovery calls, articulating product decisions, and building trust as institutions transition to our platform.
• Identify patterns and commonalities across institutions to design scalable solutions that serve multiple customers.
• Think big-picture, ensuring that each feature contributes meaningfully to the broader product strategy and long-term vision.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 8+ years of experience as a product manager with clear career growth over time.
• Experience building enterprise SaaS products, preferably in a fast-paced startup or during early product development at an established company.
• Relentlessly driven to build products that set new standards of excellence and go beyond “good enough.”
• Enjoys delving into the details of complex logic, systems, and algorithms.
• Possesses a technical mindset—comfortable in engineering discussions and able to grasp complex technical concepts (coding not required).
• A problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, capable of turning abstract problems into structured, actionable solutions.
• Analytical and resourceful, skilled at manipulating data, identifying patterns, and seeking insights independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex product decisions to both external partners and internal teams.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid setup and coordinating across multiple time zones.

Compensation & Work Environment

• Base salary: $200K, plus equity.
• Work location: 3 days in office per week (San Mateo)
