About the Role

FrameWorks Institute is seeking a Finance Director who is a mature leader with at least nine years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. Their nonprofit finance experience will ideally include working in a complex organization with multiple programs and sources of revenue. 

The person in this role will possess impeccable integrity, credibility, and discretion, and a clear commitment to FrameWorks’ mission. They will be a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CEO, the responsibility for the financial health of the organization.

The position reports to the Chief of Staff. It is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C, with the possibility of remote work. There is an expectation to come to the DC office for key team meetings, and the likelihood of additional travel in connection with conferences, meetings, and other events .

 

Responsibilities

 

Finance and Accounting Leadership

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures.
  • Coordinate all audit activity.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, and keep the Management Team abreast of the organization’s financial status;
  • Coordinate with leadership across departments to facilitate a participatory budget process, which provides technical support and empowers budget managers to own the finances of their department
  • Administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Engage the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for restricted grants;
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting, continuously collaborate with program managers to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
  • Oversee those finance and accounting functions assigned to the Director of Administration.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 11 years of combined education and experience in nonprofit financial management, with a CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments
  • A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of restricted grants is essential
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Keen analytic, organization,al and problem-solving skills, which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance managers
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity, justice, and inclusion into daily work
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Salary: Starting salary of $150,000, depending on experience
